description:
Concanavalin A (Con A), derived from Canavalia ensiformis (Concanavalin), is a plant lectin protein (Mw = 104 kDa), each subunit can bind one Ca2+ and one Mn2+, contains a sugar-binding site, and when the metal ions bind to Con A, it can bind various glycoproteins, glycolipids and α-D-glucose and a-D-mannose moieties in sugars, while FITC is a fluorescent dye that fluoresces green (Ex/Em: 495 nm/515 nm) under ultraviolet light. This combination allows Con A-FITC to have a high visualization capability for the detection of cell surface carbohydrate molecules. Concanavalin A-FITC (Con A-FITC) is a fluorescently labeled protein that combines Concanavalin A and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) and is widely used in biological research, especially in the field of flow cytometry.
